Joyce A. Royer, 88, Valley Falls, died Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Holton Community Hospital.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1925, at Topeka, the daughter of Guy Lincoln and Mary L. Frederick. Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Valley Falls. She had been an active member of the Jefferson County Democratic Party.
Joyce was a homemaker. She married Raymond H. Simonsen on Aug. 27, 1943, in Topeka. She worked with him in his office in Valley Falls where he was a chiropractor. Dr. Simonsen died on July 29, 1966. She married Milton Lee Royer on June 3, 1971, at Miami, OK. He died on April 30, 2008. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and John “Jack” Frederick; and two sisters, Jane Burson and Helen Kuhr.
Survivors include four daughters, Garlinda Walls, Hattiesburg, MS, Gloria (Randy) Blankinship, Oklahoma City, OK, Gail Ross, Holton, and Barb (Tod) Raine, Auburn; two sisters, Shirley Casto, Meriden, and Carol Griggs, Topeka; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Inurnment will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
