Forrest Eugene Morris, 86, of Holton, KS passed away May 17, 2014 at Holton Community Hospital. He was born April 19, 1928 in Holton, the son of George Eugene and Hazel Velma (Young) Morris.

Forrest graduated from Holton High School in 1947 and was known as the fastest man in Jackson County for many years, having held track records in the 100, 220, and 440 yard races as well as the mile relay.

Forrest served in the National Guard and was a farmer and stockman all of his life. He also owned and operated Morris Produce in Holton and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years.

He was a member of United Steelworkers Local #307, V.F.W. Post 1367, The Brick Grange and had been active in FFA. Forrest enjoyed deer, wolf, coon and bird hunting (his nickname was “Timber”). He also loved raising his cattle and listening to country music.

Forrest married Berniece Lorene Trimble on May 29, 1949 in Valley Falls, KS. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1977. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Gibeson.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Georgene Wilhelm (Ken) of Mayetta, Janene Morris of Atchison, Debra Korte (Raymond) of Holton; 4 sons, Stephen “Steve” Morris (Laurita) of Holton, Merle Morris of Wichita, Harold Morris (Judy) of Holton and Dennis Morris (Tym) of Topeka; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery.
