Loretta Jean Walker
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton

Loretta Jean Walker, 82, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at her home, on the Kickapoo Reservation. She was born on May 30, 1931 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Erma Simon Du Puis. Loretta worked for the Atchison Garment Factory for twenty two years. She then earned her cosmetology degree and owned and operated her own beauty shop for years, until she lost her beauty shop do to a fire. Loretta then became a Certified Nurses Aid before retiring. She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe, Drum Religion and Alcoholic's anonymous Association. She married Stanford Walker on January 1, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1970. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hoskins of Lawrence, Kansas; two sons, Raymond E. Walker of Kansas City, Kansas and Anthony Craig Walker of Horton, Kansas; two sisters, Thamar Masqua of Horton, Kansas and Rose Weldon of Atchison, Kansas; twelve grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Anita Walker, five brothers, Louis Bo Du Puis, Vernon Du Puis, Darwin Du Puis, Wayne Simon and Daniel Kawkeka; five sisters, Bernice Ogden, Geraldine Schuetz, Amelia Fuqua, Georgia Vallejo and Mary Simon. Drum services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday morning at the Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. Friends may call anytime Thursday at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
