John A. Moore

John A. Moore, 81, of rural Hiawatha, died Thursday morning, May 22, 2014, at the Sabetha Manor.

John was born March 29, 1933, on the family farm near Sycamore Springs, north of Morrill, one of two sons of John H. and Emily Carlson Moore.  He was a lifelong resident of the Morrill area where he attended county school near Sabetha prior to graduating from Sabetha High School with the class of 1952.  

John served as a trustee for the Fairview Township for a number of years; served on the Brown County Watershed Board; and was a very active and committed volunteer to help build the Morrill Community Building. John enjoyed visiting Arkansas through the years.  His family was very important part of his life and treasured every moment 

He married Joyce Nelms, April 4, 1954, at the Sabetha Congregational Church.  They farmed and operated a dairy all of their married life.  They retired from dairying in 1984, but John continued to live his dream by farming.  Joyce survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons:  John Moore of Hiawatha, Steve (Joy) Moore of rural Hiawatha; two daughters:  Sue (Ron) Hartter of Morrill, Wilma (Mike) Rainwater of Trenton, MO; a brother Marvin Moore of Morrill; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson Ben Hartter in 2002.

It was John’s wish to be cremated.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Monday evening at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Morrill Cemetery.
