Emmett Sanderson

Emmett Frank Sanderson, 82, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

He was born on July 12, 1927 in Elwood, Kansas the son of William Edward and Hazel Carlon Sanderson. Emmett served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Emmett worked at a Feed and Grain store in St. Joseph, Missouri before retiring. In 1947 he married Elsie Marie Thomas in Elwood, Kansas. Emmett enjoyed western movies, reading, gambling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Lester (Cathy) Sanderson of St. Joseph, Missouri, James (Sarah) Sanderson of Horton, Kansas and Keith Sanderson of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, June Sanderson of Horton, Kansas; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elsie in 1983, daughter, Nancy Stallsworth, grandson, Brian Sanderson, brother, Fred Sanderson, two sisters, Joyce Baskins and Thelma Johnston.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Bellemont Cemetery in Wathena, Kansas. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where friends may call after noon on Sunday.
