Loretta M. Dix, 91, Valley Falls, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
She was born Sept. 15, 1922, at Topeka, the daughter of William and Amelia Fritton Hartman. She graduated from South Star, a one room school house, and Meriden High School. Her childhood was spent on the family farm, north of Meriden.
She married Roy E. Dix, on May 25, 1944. He died on July 19, 2013.
Loretta lived on the Dix farm most of her life. The last months of her life she lived with her dearest friends at Midland Care LinnWood Park Assisted Living in Valley Falls. In addition to working on the Dix farm and raising six children, she enjoyed working at Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton for 16 years.
She is survived by two sons, Karl E. (Debra) Dix, Topeka, and Joe R. Dix, Valley Falls; four daughters, Mary M. Conway, Greenfield, WI, Jane M. (Nelson) Dix, Meriden, Carol A. Johnson, Excelsior Springs, MO, and Kathleen L. (Randy) Robinson, Mayetta; two sisters, Virginia Albright, Hoyt, and Helen Eakes, Topeka; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her first-born daughter, Amelia Catherine Dix, great-granddaughter, Bailey Marie Dix, a brother, Victor Hartman, and sister, Naomi Getscher.
Loretta was a dedicated and devout member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Valley Falls.
She loved sewing and was an avid quilter. She earned many national and state quilting awards. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, walking, Bingo, and going to casinos. Loretta enjoyed getting the most out of life and her day was not complete until she gave thanks to the Lord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Friday, June 13, 2014, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Meriden. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm Thursday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Visitation will follow.
