Eli Edward Hartter, 95, of Sabetha passed away Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Sabetha Community Hospital.

Eli was born June 29, 1918 in Sabetha, KS the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Meyer) Hartter. He attended school at Berwick. Eli did carpentry work with his dad and his brother, Art. On December 30, 1948 he was united in marriage to Margaret Kramer; to this union two sons were born, Ron and Daryl.

Eli owned and operated Eli’s Pool Hall in Sabetha for 15 years. For 30 years he worked in maintenance at the Sabetha Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, Eli went to work at the Sabetha Country Club for 10 years. He was an avid billiards player, golfer, trapper, fisherman, and gardener.

Eli was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret (Kramer) Hartter; his siblings, David Hartter, Lena Hartter, Leonard Hartter, Harvey Hartter, Arthur Hartter, Ione Rokey, Velma Leman and Lenis Hartter.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the home; two sons, Ronnie (Sue) Hartter of Morrill, KS and Daryl Hartter of Topeka, KS; step-children, Michael (Sandra) Dorn of Auburn, NE, Connie Hecht (Bob) of Bern, KS, Dagny Rivers of Tampa, FL, Laura Salah of Sabetha, KS, Paul Dorn of Auburn, NE, Tanya Clements (Chad) of Borger, TX, Eric Dorn (Brandi) of Bulverde, TX; two sisters, Elda Mae Craig of Congerville, IL and Luella Sauder of Normal, IL; one grandchild and one great-grandchild; 19 step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
