Edward Kalin

Edward “Ed” L. Kalin, age 78, of Burchard, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He was born on November 25, 1935 to Stephen A. and Olive J. (McGuire) Kalin in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

He attended grade school at a country school and St. Anthony’s Parochial School at Steinauer and graduated from the Steinauer High School with the class of 1955. 
Ed served in the Army Reserve from March 1957 until March 20, 1963.

On November 8, 1975 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Reuter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson.

Ed was a life long member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer. He was a Eucharistis Minister for twenty five years and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed nine years of service with the Farm Services Agency as County Committeeman.

Ed worked with Karl Sauer from Switzerland  on the documentary movie “Steinauer, Nebraska”.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Olive Kalin, and infant sister.

He  is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Burchard, NE, brother-in-law, John Reuter and wife Darlene, sisters-in-law, Ann Reuter and Joyce Volz and husband Ron all of Humboldt, NE, nieces and nephews.  He claimed his cousins on both sides of the family like his brothers and sisters.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 27, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Steinauer. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street in Pawnee City. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Steinauer.
