Geraldine Sarensen, 89, of Holton, KS passed away June 25, 2014 at Medicalodge Jackson County. She was born December 27, 1924 on a farm in Straight Creek neighborhood, south of Whiting. She was the daughter of Clifford George and Blanche Mary (Wheeler) Baldwin.

Geraldine attended eight grades at Pleasant View rural one-room school; her mother had attended the same school. She graduated from Whiting High School in 1942. Following graduation, she was employed a few months in Washington D.C. and later worked at the 832nd Specialized Supply Depot at Pauline. She spent the first 19 years of marriage helping her husband on the farm, working some part-time jobs and raising their only son, Gregory Alan Sarensen. She worked for Sherriff Ernest White as Office Deputy in the spring of 1963. Later, she worked as Deputy County Treasure, Clerk of District Court office and Executive Secretary of the Jackson County Selective Service Board, all in Holton. She also worked for the USDA, Farmers Home Administration in Topeka and later in Holton. Geraldine retired in January 1987.

Geraldine was baptized in the Whiting Episcopal Methodist Church on February 11, 1934 and transferred membership to Netawaka United Methodist Church in 1945. She was an active member of the church, having served many offices, including Past President of the UMW, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairperson of the Administrative Council and Church Historian. She was currently a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. Geraldine was former member of Netawaka Book Club, Women’s Republican Club, Kansas Day Club,  Holton Business Women and Board of Directors of Jackson County Nursing Home and later Medicalodge Jackson County. Geraldine and her husband were 4-H Club Leaders in the 1960’s.

She married Noel Alan Sarensen on August 19, 1945 in Holton. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2000. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Maxine Lambert in 1984 and Pat Comfort in 2010.

Survivors include her son, Greg Sarensen and his wife Catherine of Bonner Springs, KS; 2 grandchildren, Micah Noel Sarensen and Bryant Sarensen.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Netawaka Cemetery.
