The Pawnee City, City Council, spent time during Monday’s meeting discussing last Friday’s Pawnee County Planning Commission meeting. The meeting included a request from Pawnee City to create a Wellhead Protection area around the city’s water wells, which are located approximately eight miles northwest of Pawnee City.
The Planning Commission tabled the matter, pending receipt of more information from Pawnee City. City Clerk Tammy Stephens explains. (play audio :31)
Stephens says the city is seeking the Wellhead Protection area designation as a way to prevent the city’s water supply from becoming contaminated.
The Pawnee City Council approved a motion to renewing the lease of pasture and CRP ground with Gary Kuhl and Robert Niedermeyer for 2012. The lease cost remains the same as last year - $41.78 an acre for 83.1 acres of pasture ground, for a total of $3,471, and $2,000 for 26.3 acres of CRP ground. The council also approved a motion to renew the lease of hay ground with Deborah and Ryan Wissler.
The council approved a payment of $511,193 to Eriksen Construction for work on the wastewater treatment facility.
The council discussed a request from the Library Board to have the city enter into a maintenance program for lawn care at the new Library. Stephens says that probably won’t happen this year. (play audio :38)
Tony Moore came before the board to request traffic control around North Park. Moore requested installing stop signs in the area, and Stephens says the council spent some time discussing the matter. (play audio :33)
The council made no decision on the matter Monday night.
In other business, the council approved the purchase of a lift for the swimming pool. The final purchase price was less than the $4,000 that had been budgeted for the lift.
And the council approved a request to block off the street in front of the school Friday for Safety Day – though if it rains, the event will likely be postponed until the fall.
