The Pawnee City, City Council, got an update on the status of its Wellhead Protection proposal during a short meeting Monday night.
Pawnee City sent certified letters to 15 landowners within a mile-and-a-half radius of the city’s well field, who could be affected should the wellhead protection area be approved. Zoning Administrator Clint Johnson told the council the city has received five of the 15 letters back. Landowners who received letters have until May 1st to return the letter or contact the city.
Pawnee City is seeking the wellhead protection area around the town’s wells as a way to guard against pollutants entering the water supply. The Pawnee County Planning Commission has tabled action on the matter pending receipt of more information from the city.
The wellhead protection area ultimately will have to be approved by the Pawnee County Commission.
In other business Monday night, the Pawnee City Council approved a $1,670 contract with HJP Pest Control to spray for mosquitoes six times this summer. The company will spray for mosquitoes on July 3 and 18; August 1st, 15th, and 29th; and September 12th. All those dates are Wednesdays, except July 3rd, which is a Tuesday.
The council approved a motion to have Miracle Mudjacking repair a safety issue to a bridge on the walking trail at a cost of $2,000.
Council member Charlie Hatfield told the council that the pool lift the city had ordered would not work with the pool gutters. He said another lift has been ordered, which will cost slightly more than the original lift, but still less than $5,000.
And the council accepted the resignation of office clerk Tina Moore, effective May 31st.
