(KAIR) -- Mike Strong walked away with the Democratic nomination for Buchanan County Sheriff Tuesday night.
The incumbent defeated Ron Fisher for the nomination by a vote of 3,551 to 2,370.
On the other side, a close race on Tuesday ended with a spread of just 52 votes in the race for Buchanan County Sheriff.
Patrick Grove won the Republican nomination for Buchanan Co. Sheriff over Undersheriff Bill Puett.
Strong is seeking his third term as Sheriff.
In the race for the Western District Commissioner, PJ Kovac will be the nominee with 68 percent of the vote, defeating Robert Miller, who had 32 percent.
Kovac will compete against incumbent Ron Hook for the position.
In Saint Joseph, voters approved an extension of the current Capital Improvements Program (CIP) Sales Tax Tuesday night.
The final vote was 8,044 to 3,015.
The sales tax is not an increase.
It extends a tax that has been in effect since 1993, keeping the sales tax rate at 7.475 percent.
The CIP tax will generate $30 million in revenue over a 6-year period. With Tuesday's passage, the CIP tax will remain in effect until 2019.
According to KQ2 News, the money will pay for several new road projects, new fire stations and park maintenance.
