Kanzaland Area Cross Country Runners Capture Top Spots at Marysville Invite
It was plenty of top individual performances at the Marysville Invite in cross country action for Kanzaland area athletes, as the top three finishers individually in girls competition and the top two spots on the boys side were all from Kanzaland area schools.
For the girls, Hiawatha Redhawk, Jordan Puvogel lead the way in the 4K run finishing 30-plus seconds (16:15.91) ahead of second place finsiher, Horton Charger, Leah Murata (16:46.25). Rounding out the top three a top performer at state last year, Axtell Eagle, Audrey Schmitz (17:17.78). Two other Kanzaland area runners finished in the top 10 with Bryclin Alstrom of Marysville finishing fifth and Madison Stone of Washington County coming in tenth place.
On the boys side it was two of the top Northeast Kansas distance runners finishing one and two, in what will most likely be many top finishes for these guys this season. Centralia Panther, Lukas Koch cruised his way to first place (17:21.91) in the 5K run, with Frankfort Wildcat, Adam Koch right on his tail (17:29.60). Two other Kanzaland area runners finished in the top 10 with Dylan Hodgson of Washington County finishing fifth and Tracy Schmitz of Axtell finishing sixth.
The Marysville Invite was highlighted for the Kanzaland area with plenty of top individual performances. The top team performances went to Omaha South in both girls and boys competitions overall. On the girls side after Omaha South in first it was Horton finishing second as a team, Axtell third, Washington County fourth and Nemaha Valley fifth. For the boys Omaha South took first, Pike Valley second, Nemaha Valley third, Washington County fourth and Hiawatha fifth.
