( KMZA )--A bridge repair project began Tuesday in Pottawatomie County on westbound US 24 Highway over the Big Blue River at the east city limits of Manhattan.
The eastbound US-24 Big Blue River Bridge will remain open and is not included in this project.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the project includes expansion joint replacement, bridge deck patching and a polymer overlay.
Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.
Traffic has been reduced to one lane over the bridge and will remain that way throughout the project duration. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones.
K-State game day traffic should allow plenty of extra time on home game days due to potential travel delays.
Wildcat Construction Company of Wichita is the primary contractor on the nearly $200,000 project which is scheduled for completion in late October, weather permitting.
