( KNZA )--The Hiawatha Police Department will be getting a new records management system.
The city commission Tuesday evening authorized purchase of the system through Enterpol for a special discounted price of $11,160 .
Hiawatha Police Chief John Defore says his department is being offered the special deal because they will become the first agency in the state of Kansas to access the system through the internet.
Defore says the software is not simply a departmental want, it’s a need. He said there is alot of tasks the system can do....( play audio )
Defore says currently the police department is the only law enforcement agency in Brown County that isn’t using the Enterpol records management system or have already appropriated funds to become users. He said the system will allow for data sharing between his department and other law enforcement agencies in the county along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation......( play audio )
Defore said the state of Kansas is moving towards full electronic submissions of cases..( play audio )
City Administrator Lynne Ladner said funding for the new records management system will come from the administration budget.
