Fall Forestry Field Day, October 19 – A Fun and Educational Event for all Ages
Residents of Northeast Kansas have a rare opportunity coming up next week -- the 2012 Fall Forestry Field Day, an event that is held in a different location in Kansas each year, will be held at the Kickapoo PowWow Grounds in south Brown County on October 19th.
Fun and educational sessions will be offered throughout the day that deal with a variety of topics, including stream restoration, successfully managing trees for wildlife, conservation and timber production, tree identification, successful tree planting techniques and much more.
A variety of demonstrations and exhibits will also be available including an archery demonstration by Votruba Archery of Fairview, KS, “Skins & Skulls” and native plant exhibits, a sawmill demonstration, tips on how to sell timber and others.
It is also rumored that Smokey the Bear is scheduled to make a special appearance!
The Fall Forestry Field Day will be held at the Kickapoo PowWow Grounds just off of Hwy K-20, approximately 5 miles west of Horton, Kansas. Registration begins at 8:30 am, with activities starting at 9:00 am and concluding at 3:00 pm. Lunch will also be provided on site by “Thunder Alley Barbeque” of Horton.
