(KTNC) - Communities in southeast Nebraska are sharing in nearly two million dollars in Community Development Block Grants the state Department of Economic Development has awarded for Owner-Occupied Rehab Housing projects.
Both the City of Auburn and the City of Peru have received a total of $224,868 to help rehabilitate seven owner-occupied homes in the city for people earning at or below 80-percent of the area median income.
The Village of Stella will use $128,496 in C-D-B-G funds to rehabilitate four homes, also for people earning at or below 80-percent of the area median income. The village’s comprehensive plan, done from 2001 to 2011, indicated a need to rehabilitate up to 59 homes and remove or replace an additional eight homes – a little more than half of the 115 homes in the village.
Rehabilitation projects funded through the program include repairing or replacing windows, doors and siding; roof repair or replacement; replacing water heaters, furnaces, or air conditioners; installing storm doors and insulation; repairing walls, ceilings, and floors; and making accessibility modifications for people with disabilities.
CDBG funds were also awarded to the cities of Ashland, Fairbury, Plainview, and Plattsmouth, the Village of Southerland, and Perkins County.
