( KNZA )-Unemployment fell last month in area northeast Kansas Counties.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the September unemployment rates today ( Friday ).
Locally, Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate at 3 percent while Atchison County had the highest at 6.4 percent.
Elsewhere, Brown County’s unemployment rate in September was 4.4 percent; Doniphan, 5.4 percent; Jackson, 5.4 percent; Jefferson, 5.6 percent, Leavenworth, 6 percent; Marshall, 3.6 percent and Pottawatomie, 4.3 percent.
All the unemployment rates were down from August and also from September of last year.
Statewide, the jobless rate dropped below 6 percent in September for the first time in almost 4 years.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell last month to 5.9 percent from 6.2 percent in August. It was also down from 6.7 percent in September 2011.
Kansas last had a jobless rate below 6 percent in December 2008.
