Atchison Man Pleads Guilty to Contraband Charge
10/19/2012

(KAIR) -- A 29-year-old Atchison man could face prison after pleading guilty to a charge of bringing contraband into a correctional facility.

Brian McGugin entered the plea Friday morning in Atchison County District Court.

McGugin was charged after getting caught by correctional officers attempting to smuggle Xanax into jail in his ears May 19th when he was reporting to serve a 30 day jail sanction for DUI.

He was recently extradited back to Atchison from Texas after a warrant was issued for failing to appear for sentencing earlier this summer in another case.

McGugin remains in Atchison County Jail and sentencing is scheduled for November 26th.

County Attorney Gerald Kuckelman says McGugin qualifies for presumptive prison, based on prior convictions.
