( KNZA )-- A power outage is planned in the city of Horton later this week.
According to a press release from the city, the outage will take place between midnight Thursday and 2 o’clock Friday morning, affecting around one-thousand power customers.
The press release says the overnight outage is needed so maintenance work at the utility’s substation can be conducted in order to improve service reliability to customers.
The city of Horton is encouraging customers to prepare for the outage in advance. That means flashlights, non-perishable foods and other such items should be on hand. Also, despite refrigerators and freezers being able to keep food safe for up to two days when kept closed, extra ice should be purchased and packed around the food, if that is a concern.
The city also encourages residents to have a manual can opener, bottled water, blankets, battery powered radio and clock, as well as extra batteries.
If a resident requires the use of a life support system, having a back-up system is encouraged.
Questions concerning the outage should be directed to City Hall at 486-2681.
