Food Prices Expected to Rise in 2013

(KLZA) Food prices in Nebraska increased about 2.5 percent during 2012.  USDA Economist Ricky Volpe says due to the summer drought he is predicting a 3 to 4% increase in food prices for 2013.  ( play audio :25 seconds )
    As a result of the drought livestock feed prices saw a dramatic increase in 2012.  Volpe says that will mean we will pay more for meat and other animal based products in 2013.  ( play audio :09 seconds )
    Volpe goes on to say the price of milk and other dairy products could double if price supports are not addressed in Congress by the end of the year.  ( play audio :29 seconds )
