Lt. Governor Sheehy Touts Tax Change During Falls City Visit

(KLZA) Nebraska Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy flew into Falls City Wednesday afternoon touting a proposal from Governor Dave Heineman to eliminate the state income tax, for both individuals and corporations.
Sheehy says the proposals will be introduced in the Nebraska Legislature this week or early next week.   ( play audio  :48 seconds )
Sheehy says the current taxes in Nebraska hurt the states chance to grow.  ( play audio  :13 seconds )
The Lt. Governor also pointed out some of the area’s where Nebraska lags behind states including bordering states.  ( play audio :27 seconds )
During his Falls City visit Wednesday the Lt. Governor noted it has been decades since any major changes to the Nebraska tax system have been looked at. ( play audio :17 seconds )
Sheehy says it is important for future generations the tax system be reformed.  ( play audio :41 seconds )
Calling the Governors tax proposals a well-kept secret, Sheehy said it has not taken long for groups to raise concerns about cutting sales tax exemptions.  ( play audio  :32 seconds )
While acknowledging it could take a long time to get the tax reform proposal passed, he urged everyone on the state to discuss the topic and let your representatives know your thoughts and ideas.  ( play audio :28 seconds )
Nebraska’s current income tax brings in about 2.4 billion dollars a year while there are five billion dollars in sales tax exemptions in the state.
