(KNZA)--An arrest has been made, and formal charges filed, following the death of a 4-year-old Hiawatha boy.
That word from Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill who says Lee Davis IV, also known as Jimmy Davis, is charged with murder in the first degree and felony abuse of a child.
The charges were filed today against the 27-year-old Hiawatha resident following an investigation into the severe physical trauma incurred by the child who was brought to the Hiawatha Community Hospital Sunday suffering from the injuries. From there, the child was flown to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City where he was pronounced dead Tuesday.
In the words of the criminal complaint filed by Hill, Davis “cruelly beat” the child.
The relationship between Davis and the victim is not immediately made public.
Davis is currently held in the Brown County Jail on bond of 2-million-dollars.
Following his first appearance today, Davis will return to Brown County Court on March 13th for a preliminary hearing.
The Hiawatha Police Department, the Brown County Sheriff's Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation all assisted with the case.
