(KNZA)--Today marks the start of the Seatbelts Are For Everyone Campaign, commonly known as SAFE, with the statewide effort to focus on student related traffic safety.
While much of the focus is placed on increased traffic enforcement in the areas of schools, much of the effort will take place inside the schools themselves.

Hughes says the implementation of SAFE inside the classroom environment will vary from school to school across the state(Play Audio)
As the students take part in SAFE inside their schools, the Patrol and other agencies statewide and local, including Horton and Hiawatha Police, will increase their efforts when patrolling near schools.
Motorists are warned that citations will be issued for any type of traffic infraction, including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt or texting behind the wheel.
Last year, 43 teens died in Kansas car crashes, with 74% of them not buckled up.
The SAFE campaign runs through March 22nd.
