(KTNC) - Horse owners in Pawnee City need to be mindful of their animals’ waste. The city has an ordinance, passed in 2006, requiring animal owners to remove excrement from the city’s trails, sidewalks, and streets.
The ordinance was passed out of concern over dogs on the city’s walking trail, but City Clerk Tammy Stephens says there is an ongoing problem with horse manure – especially in the downtown area. (play audio :25)
That issue was one of the topics of discussion at last week’s Pawnee City Council meeting.
Discussion was also held on the Law Enforcement Contract with the county. County Commissioners have proposed a three-year contract with the city, with a three-percent increase in the contract amount each year. The City Council agreed to counter the county’s offer with a two-percent annual increase over three years.
The city and county agreed to a one-year Law Enforcement Contract last year after failing to reach agreement on a long-term contract.
The city council approved an amendment to the Truck Route ordinance that prohibits trucks towing trailers from being driven on side streets, unless they are making a delivery.
Stephens says the council will consider an ordinance that changes the way sewer usage rates are set. The rates are currently based on February’s water usage, but a proposed ordinance would set the rates based on usage over a three-month period from January through March. (play audio :38)
The change, if approved, would take effect next year.
And the date of the first Pawnee City Council meeting in April has been changed. The meeting will be held Tuesday, April 9th, rather than Monday, April 8th.
