(KAIR) -- Fire damaged an Effingham home Friday night.
According to Atchison County Rural Fire District #2 Chief Kirk Kloepper, firefighters were called to the Brian Peterson residence at 801 William Street just after nine and when they arrived flames were visible on the west side of the home and from the attic.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to those areas. However, the entire home suffered smoke and heat damage.
Kloepper says crews remained on the scene until 2:30 to three Saturday morning to put out remaining hot spots.
No one was home at the time of the fire and a cause is currently undetermined.
Rural Fire District #2 was assisted by fire crews from Valley Falls and Lancaster.
