(KAIR) -- One week after a house fire claimed the life of an elderly Atchison woman, the investigation continues.
Atchison Fire Chief Mike McDermed says the State Fire Marshal has pinpointed the bed 75-year-old Sharon Ferris was sleeping in as the origin of the fire.
Ferris died from smoke inhalation from the fire early March 28th.
McDermed said inspectors have ruled out space heaters in the home as a cause.
He said they do know Ferris was a smoker but have not been able to determine whether or not a cigarette started the fire.
McDermed added that a definitive cause may never be determined.
