(KNZA)--Traffic along U.S. Highway 73 was left backed up for nearly a mile late Thursday afternoon following an injury crash north of Horton near 170th Road.
It happened when a driver rearended a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper, as both vehicles traveled southbound on the highway.
Numerous rescue crews, including the Highway Patrol, the Brown County Sheriff's Department, Horton and Hiawatha Fire, Horton and Hiawatha ambulances, and Kickapoo Tribal first responders, rushed to the scene around 4:00.
The trooper suffered a slight injury but was able to drive from the scene. However, the woman behind the wheel of the other car suffered more serious injuries and was transported to the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
Her name is not immediately made public.
