(KTNC) - Mound City Aldermen certified results of the April 2nd municipal election when they met this week.
North Ward Alderman Kristine Gibson was reelected with 65 votes to 37 votes for Angela Atkins. Jason Bierman ran unopposed for another term as South Ward Alderman and received 58 votes.
Mound City voters approved a street light tax levy, with 71-percent voting in favor, more than the two-thirds majority needed for approval.
Aldermen unanimously approved a motion to leave all appointments unchanged – including Board President, City Clerk, City Attorney, City Collector, Building Inspector, and Department Supervisors. They approved the appointment of Larry Knap to a five-year term on the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment, and the appointment of Kodi Tubbs and Jennie Russell to five-year terms on the Parks and Recreation Board.
In action during the meeting, Aldermen approved an ordinance awarding a contract for new playground equipment at Griffith Park. The city received bids from four companies and accepted a proposal from ATHCO for $40,000. Aldermen also approved a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Department to add two benches and a freestanding “Match 4 Panel” for an additional $2800.
Aldermen approved a motion to have Hall Construction repair a depression in Savannah Street at 9th Street, at a cost of $1173.
They also approved a proposal to have Hall Construction install a water line under 6th Street to the sewer lift station.
The council approved a motion to have a surveillance camera reinstalled inside the Library. The camera had been removed due to concern from the Library Board that the camera was a privacy concern.
And Aldermen approved a rental agreement with Foley Power Solutions to rent a generator for the sewer lift station when it’s needed. The city would rent the generator, in the event of a potential loss of power, for $1230 a week. The cost would be half the rental fee if the generator is delivered but is not used.
