Pawnee City Council Discusses Nuisance Properties
04/24/2013

(KTNC) - The Pawnee City, City Council, followed up on several nuisance letters that the city sent to property owners during Monday’s council meeting.
Larry Rinne told the council that one of his properties in the one thousand block of 8th Street was completed.  Frank Burcham requested, and was granted 30 days to continue cleaning his property at 200 11th Street.
Mary Friedly sent a letter to the council providing an update on progress made to clean up a property she owns on 4th Street.  She said a company from Marysville, Kansas removed asbestos from the home last fall, and money would be available this summer to demolish the house.
Meanwhile, the city has filed a lien on the property at 1138 G Street.
The council will continue meeting with property owners next month.
In other business, the city council met with USDA Rural Development representative Jan Stopak on the timeline for Rural Development’s part of Pawnee City’s assisted living facility.
The city has obtained bids from three companies to do a market rate study.  That will determine whether there is enough demand for a 19-unit facility.  If there is enough demand, then the city could proceed with a financial feasibility report.
And the council approved a motion to continue leasing 83 acres of pasture and 26 acres of CRP ground around the city’s well field to Gary Kuhl (keel) and Robert Niedermeyer for this year.
The terms of the lease remain the same – $41.78 an acre for the pasture ground, plus $2,000 for the CRP acres.
