(KNZA)--Several high schools, from the local region, earn distinction in rankings released by U.S. News and World Report.
The national magazine ranked schools with gold, silver or bronze medals, based on state proficiency standards and how well they prepare students for college.
In the local area of Kansas, three high schools earn national recognition, as Winchester's Jefferson County North, Pleasant Ridge in Easton and Sabetha High School are awarded bronze medals.
Over 21,000 public high schools, in 49 states and the District of Columbia, were analyzed, using 12th grade enrollment figures and data from the 2010-2011 school year.
Nebraska was the only state that did not report enough data to be evaluated for the rankings.
