Art and Local History to Come Together at Falls City Library
05/08/2013

(KTNC) - Art and local history will come together this month during an event at the Falls City Library and Arts Center, which may shed light on a persistent question – where are the “falls” located that give Falls City its name.
The event will be held Friday, May 17th, beginning at the Library with the viewing of a restored painting, titled “Falls City Mills.”
May 17th is the date the Falls City Centennial Book says the town was incorporated – though there is a question about the exact year the town was founded.  Library Director Hope Schawang says they hope to use the event as a jumping off point to discover more about the town’s history.
After the painting is unveiled, people are then invited to visit the site where the “falls” were once located, which Schawang says is now a farm field south of Falls City.
The evening will begin with the viewing of the painting at 6:00 p.m. on May 17th before folks trek to the site of the falls.
The painting will remain on display at the Falls City Library for a period of time.  Anyone who would like to adopt another painting in the Library’s collection to be restored, repaired, or reframed can contact Schawang at the Library, or Stalder Gallery Curator Christina Wertenberger.
