Update: All Three Lansing Escapees Captured
05/10/2013

All three inmates who walked away from the minimum security unit at the Lansing Correctional Facility Friday morning are now in custody.

Authorities say two of the inmates, 31-year-old Allen M. Hurst and 49-year-old Scott A. Gilbert, were taken into custody about 5 o'clock Friday afternoon after negotiators talked them out of a northwest Missouri home following a seven hour standoff.

Platte County Sheriff's Department Lt. Erik Holland says officers began chasing the suspects in Platte City, Mo. Holland says shots were fired at officers as the men fled in a stolen car and the men bailed at a home near Edgerton. The homeowners weren't home at the time, but told officers there were firearms inside.

Meanwhile, the third inmate, 57-year-old Randy A. Ridens Sr., was arrested late Friday night when he attempted to return to his Topeka home.  Ridens was serving time after being convicted in 2010 on several burglary counts in 2010 in Shawnee and Douglas Counties.

Hurst and Gilbert were both convicted in Sedgwick County in 2010 of multiple counts of burglary and theft.
