(KTNC) - The Falls City Board of Education approved a probationary contract with Kelly Juilfs to be a school psychologist intern for the next school year. She graduated from UNO with a master’s degree in School Psychology, and will be completing her internship with the Falls City School District during the 2013-14 School Year.
She will be required to have a supervising school psychologist for consultation during the year, and the Falls City District is considering contracting with ESU 4 for that service.
Superintendent Tim Heckenlively updated the board on activity in the state legislature. Legislation on a new school funding formula cleared the first round of debate with no dissenting votes, but he says there’s a battle going on between larger and smaller districts in the state.
He says it appears the Falls City School District will see a reduction in state aid, thanks to flat enrollment and increasing agland valuations. (play audio :57)
Heckenlively says 95-percent of the proposed increase in state aid stands to go to the largest 11 school district.
Of 214 “rural” districts, he says 114 will receive no state equalization aid. Falls City is one of 100 rural districts that will receive state aid under the proposed formula.
Heckenlively credited the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association with providing a voice to the rural school districts in the state.
