Nebraska Governor Says No to Senate Bid
(KTNC) - Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman will not run for United States Senate.
Heineman, a Republican, says he received encouragement from both Republicans and Democrats to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Senator Mike Johanns, but discussions with former governors now in the United States Senate convinced him not to run.
Heineman was considered the leading potential Republican candidate in the race for the Senate seat now held by Senator Mike Johanns, also a Republican. Heineman says the atmosphere in Washington played a role in his decision to not run.
Heineman says he wants state government to concentrate on lowering taxes during his final two years in office. He also says he wants to help create jobs and improve education.
