(KNZA)--Charges against a Topeka man accused of playing a role in the January shooting death of a Mayetta man have been dismissed.
37-year-old Steven Eastman was accused of driving the vehicle that carried two shooting suspects to and from the residence of Kevin Stanley at the time that he was shot.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says she requested that the charge be dropped during Wednesday's preliminary hearing for Eastman in Jackson County District Court.
However, the charge of obstructing apprehension or obstruction could be refiled depending on future developments in the case.
Eastman was accused of providing a ride to Mayetta residents Desiree Shopteese and Lloyd Wabaunsee on January 19th, the date of the fatal shooting.
The Mayetta duo had both been charged with 2nd degree murder. However, Shopteese in April pled guilty to a lesser charge, commonly known as aiding a felon, and was sentenced last month to eight months in prison. However, that was suspended, and Shopteese will serve no time behind bars if she successfully completes 18 months of supervised probation.
Wabaunsee remains charged with 2nd degree murder and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Friday morning at 9:30 in a Jackson County courtroom.
