(KLZA) One of the area schools that did not receive disappointing news concerning State Aid to Schools was the Humboldt-Table Rock –Steinauer District. However, Superintendent Clint Kimbrough was not giddy with excitement over the new numbers.
HTRS will receive approximately a $30,000 increase in State Aid for the next school year. That will about double the districts total from this past year. When HTRS merged with Southeast Consolidated a few years ago, just after gaining a large amount of land when the Dawson-Verdon School District disolved, the State Aid amount was approximately $2.1 million. That was just five years ago. Since that time HTRS State Aid has declined to $1.5 million, then down to $785,000, followed by a drop to $135,000 and all the way down to last years total of approximately $30,000.
Superintendent Kimbrough calls the amount of State Aid now received insignificant to the total budget.
When the HTRS Board met this week they confirmed the hiring of Carla Kage as Special Education instructor and the hiring of Paraeducators Angie Phelps and Chris Bredemeier.
The HTRS School District has also formed a committee to take a look at possible ways to offer a Future Farmers of American program in the district. Superintendent Kimbrough commented. ( play audio :16 seconds )
The committee will visit with Pawnee City which offers the program and with Johnson County Central and Johnson-Brock who combine to offer the program.
The Board also approved waiving a rule for a student requiring the student to attend 8 semesters to receive a high school diploma. Special circumstances persuaded the Board members to allow the exception.
The HTRS Board has also approved moving the July Board meeting back one week to July 15th. ( play audio :15 seconds )
