Pawnee City to Apply for Housing Rehab Grant
06/26/2013

(KTNC) -  The Pawnee City Council approved changes to the city’s Owner-Occupied Housing Rehab Program Guidelines and the Housing Rehab Program Income Reuse Plan Monday night.
Pawnee City is applying for a grant of $316,250 from the Department of Economic Development that would allow 10 homes to be rehabilitated.  City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the Department of Economic Development recommended the changes.  (play audio   :25   “median income.”)
The last time the city applied for a housing rehab grant, they included category one and category two applicants, but Stephens says the city would get more points on their grant application by limiting it to just category one.
The action was taken during a public hearing on the grant, with Kevin Burnison of the Southeast Nebraska Development District.  (play audio   :15    “applicants.”)
Pawnee City has received 17 pre-applications for housing rehab grants, which Stephens says shows there’s a need in the community.  The deadline for people to apply for a grant is July 19th.
Following the public hearing, the council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign and submit the housing rehab grant application.
