06/27/2013

( KNZA )--A large gathering was on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony  Thursday  morning for Hiawatha’s newest hotel.

The Best Western Plus Hotel officially opened its doors last Thursday on Lodge Road, east of McDonald.

The hotel’s developer, Raju Sheth of MITRA Development in Wichita, thanked Hiawatha city officials who he says were instrumental in making the project become a reality. Last year, the Hiawatha City Commission approved the issuance of up to four million dollars in industrial revenue bonds for the project.  The city also provided the property. MITRA Development provided $1.2 million in funding for the project.

The new hotel consists of 57 rooms with 18 suites, an indoor pool and hot tub, along with exercise room.

Hiawatha Mayor Crosby Gernon said it’s a great step forward for the city and the city is excited to have a national flag hotel in town. Gernon said he thinks the new hotel will be very important for Hiawatha’s future.

Following the ribbon cutting, tours were provided of the new hotel.  Trent Heinz serves as general manager and Shay Tracy as manager of the hotel.
