06/28/2013

(KLZA) The Auburn Board of Public Works Board of Directors held their annual elections during their June 13th meeting.  Tom Gulizia was elected Chairman,  Chuck Knipe Vice-Chairman, Rich Wilson Secretary and Mac Erisman as Acting Secretary.

Dick Hahn who has served as Chairman of the Board said it had been a pleasure to serve on the Board and as Chairman.

General Manager David Hunter reported on the West Water Line Project.  The Auburn City Council in June did not approve options suggested for financing presented to them.  Hunter suggested hiring JEO to put together additional financing options for the City Council’s review.  Following a lengthy discussion it was decided to take no action at this time.

Jane Andrew met with the Board regarding a tree that was removed in Brownville.  She was requesting the Board pay the Arboretum $500 for reimbursement for the tree.  Following discussion, the consensus of the Board was that communication with the Arboretum regarding trees would be increased but no reimbursement could be made due to the tree policy of the BPW being followed.

Hunter informed the Board that all transactions related to the USDA bonds for the Wastewater Treatment Plant had been completed and the bonds had bee paid off with proceeds of the Combined Utility Bonds issued through Ameritas.

The Board voted to post the vacant position of Power Plant Operator internally and voted to advertise to hire a grade IV water operator.

Accounting and Finance Manager Milissa Sierks presented a proposal from Hamilton and Associates for audit services for 2013-15 which was approved.

Accepting offsite waste at the Wastewater Treatment Plant was discussed.  General Manager Hunter noted some modifications would need to be made. The Board directed Hunter to continue exploring opportunities for offsite waste, but take no further action until it is brought back before the Board.

The annual employee education regarding retirement will take place this final week in June.

Following an executive session to discuss litigation, the Board voted to notify Erickson Construction to change out the dehumidifier and the BPW would pay them for what was owed, less liquidated damages.
