(KAIR)--Although they are illegal, neighborhoods throughout Atchison have been described by residents as a “battlefield” due to the use of fireworks.
Normally quiet areas have, in recent days, been filled with the sound of explosives, including bottle rockets, which are illegal in Kansas.
On Friday morning, just hours after Independence Day came to an end, even the Atchison City Hall lawn was seen to be littered with debris from fireworks packaging.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says residents are reminded that the use of fireworks is clearly off limits in the city.
Despite the obvious sights and sounds of illegal fireworks use throughout Atchison, no citations are reported in connection with the crime.
