HTRS Board Discusses Former School in Stella
08/16/2013

(KLZA) -- One of the topics for school boards every summer is maintenance and upkeep of buildings.  The Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer School District is no different.  A number of projects have been done this summer at district buildings in Humboldt and in Table Rock.  An addition to the building at Humboldt is discussed monthly by the Board and that discussion is continuing with the Board narrowing down what all they want to include if the project moves forward.

During Monday nights HTRS Board meeting, members discussed another possibility that has recently come up,  that the former Southeast Consolidated School building in Stella is for sale. Superintendent Clint Kimbrough said open discussion took place about the current buildings and how the building in Stella could possibly be used.  Board members gave no indication of going forward with an effort to purchase the building.

When the HTRS and Southeast Consolidated school districts merged in 2008, the decision was made to sell the building in Stella.  The building sold for $125,000. Again the discussion Monday night centered only on the fact the building is for sale.

The HTRS Board members did further discuss a possible addition to the building at Humboldt. The HTRS Booster Club originally proposed building a fitness center on the north side of the current gym and has been raising funds for the project.  The project has not received final approval but options continue to be discussed. Depending on what is included prices for the possible addition range from less than $1.5-million to $1.9 million.

In other business the HTRS Board approved the 2-percent additional budget growth allowed this year by state law.  Board policy updates were approved and the hiring of a para-educator was approved.
