( KNZA )--The Hiawatha City Commission plans to enlist the services of the League of Kansas Municipalities in the search for a new city administrator.
Mike Koss with the League met with the commission Monday evening to discuss their administrator search program known as LEAPS.
Koss says League has helped with more than 60 searches over the last 15 years of the program.
He says they would first survey commissioners to determine what they would like to see in a new city administrator and then use that to develop an advertisement for the position that would run for about 5 to 7 weeks.
Koss said their ranking committee would rank each candidate, and then the commission would select 5 to 7 candidates for phone interviews. 2 to 3 of candidates would then be selected for in-person interviews.
Koss presented a contract for the commission’s consideration, which they will have reviewed by the city attorney. The commission is expected to take action on the contract at their next meeting on September 3rd.
Mayor Crosby Gernon said he thinks the commission needs to use a search engine and in favor having the League assist them.
The commission voted to terminate the contract with City Administrator Lynne Ladner at their July 29th meeting. She had held the position for just over 7 years.
Mayor Gernon is serving as interim administrator.
