( KNZA )--Answers remain scarce regarding the shooting death of an Atchison man earlier this month.
It's been just over two weeks since Matthew Sollars died as the result of a shooting at a rural Doniphan County residence, succumbing to his injuries on August 13th, one day after the incident, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
Since that time, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been assisting the Doniphan County Sheriff's Department in finding out exactly what led to the death of the 25-year-old.
It was last week that Sollars, who was born and raised in Leavenworth, was laid to rest in his home county, survived by numerous family members, including daughters Madison and Maycie and step-daughter McKayla Boyce.
The investigation is ongoing, with no definitive word made public by investigators on exactly what happened during the early morning hours of August 12th, at a residence southwest of Troy, where Sollars was residing.
Despite initial reports, based on a 911 call informing first responders that the victim had shot himself, the details of the shooting remain unspecified as the investigation moves forward.
Four people, along with Sollars, were at the 1057 Hickory Point Road address at the time of the fatal shooting, but investigators have not yet released any details regarding what they say happened. However, Doniphan County Sheriff Chad Clary has stated that the KBI was called to assist because the initial investigation wasn't adding up.
