(AP) - The State Board of Education says applications are now available for Nebraska's next commissioner of education.
The applications are available on the website of the Proact search firm the board picked to help.
Once the Oct. 15 deadline passes, Proact will screen the applicants and conduct preliminary interviews. Then the company will present a list of semi-finalists to the state board.
The finalists for the job should be chosen by December.
Nebraska's last Education Commissioner Roger Breed retired at the end of June. He had held the job since October 2008, and served as an educator in Nebraska for nearly 42 years.
