( KAIR )--A well known Atchison bridge is set for destruction. According to a press release from the Kansas Department of Transportation, the former U.S. 59 Amelia Earhart Bridge is tentatively scheduled for a series of demolition blasts, one each day, on Monday, September 23; Tuesday, September 24; and Monday, September 30. A specific time on each of these days is not confirmed yet, though the department is looking at early morning, hopefully, each day, weather permiting.
These three blasts are strictly tentative dates and many details have yet to be finalized. There are many factors to be coordinated for the demolition of the former bridge, including major safety concerns associated with any blasting on a project in a populated setting.
The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to provide more information in the next couple of weeks defining the details for the demolition work.
