(KAIR)--The early hour and high temperatures could not stop more than two hundred residents of Atchison from flocking to City Hall early Saturday morning as they came out in force to honor the memory of the late Sergeant David Enzbrenner, who had his life tragically cut short nearly two years ago. The Sgt. David Enzbrenner Memorial 3.09 Run & 2K Fun Walk started with a moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner just after 8:30 with the event starting soon after. Enzbrenner's widow Kerri, who was instrumental in organizing the event, was amazed at the amount of support the Atchison community has shown.

Keith Mackenzie traveled quite a long way for the event, but says it was completely worth it. He was invited to lead the event on his bicyle due to another event he had taken part in in previous years.

Kerri Enzbrenner says that she plans to keep the memorial event going past this first year, and says there are other organizations she is considering to donate the proceeds to, such as an organization that helps the families of those who have had loved ones killed in the line of duty.
