Jackson Co Employee Arrested for Theft of County Funds
09/17/2013

(KNZA)--A Jackson County employee is accused of stealing about $16,000 from the county.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says 40-year-old Janette Lyn Fund, of Delia, was arrested Monday evening on a warrant charging her with 90 felony counts of making false information and 90 counts of theft.

Morse says the warrant was issued as a result of a nearly two month investigation by the sheriff’s department into the theft of county funds from the Jackson County Landfill and Weed Departments.

Fund was employed as an administrative assistant with the Jackson County Weed, Landfill and Recycling Department in Holton from April 2011 until July of this year.

In July of this year, Morse says Fund was allegedly caught by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office authorities in possession of missing cash that was to be deposited the day before.  The serial numbers of the missing cash had been recorded the day before the encounter.

He says the investigation revealed that cash from landfill department monies had been taken in 2011, 2012 and 2013.  The investigation also revealed that cash from weed chemical transactions had been taken over the same period. Morse says it's alleged that Fund made accounting falsifications to cover the losses.

Fund remains in the Jackson County Jail on
$ 50,000 bond.
