Watchdog Group Concerned About UNL Employee Perks
(AP) - A watchdog organization says nearly 100 University of Nebraska employees get privately funded job perks like free cars and club memberships.
Common Cause Nebraska says the University of Nebraska Foundation and university boosters provide the perks, which can include a car, car allowances or memberships to country clubs, golf clubs or health clubs. The employees receiving the perks include all four campus chancellors, as well athletic leaders like football coach Bo Pelini.
Jack Gould of Common Cause Nebraska says NU must be more transparent about using private funds to pay for personal benefits to public employees.
The foundation, which only provides funds for academic leadership, says the spending is justified because those employees travel in support of the school. The athletic department also says the spending keeps the school competitive.
