(KNZA)-Warning devices will be installed at a Brown County railroad crossing southeast of Hamlin.
The Brown County Commission Monday approved an agreement between the county, Union Pacific Railroad and the Kansas Department of Transportation for the installation of flashing lights and cross arms at a crossing on Horned Owl Road.
100 percent of the cost will come from federal funds.
A date hasn’t been set for the installation of the warning devices.
In other business Jim Hazelton with KDOT met with the commission to inform them he will be inspecting twenty-five bridges in the county this week.
Hazelton says the federal government requires that KDOT look at 10 percent of the bridges in the county.
He said he will be conducting a side-by-side comparison with the inspection conducted by the firm hired by the county to inspect the county’s more than 200 bridges, BG Consultants, of Manhattan.
And Commissioner Keith Olsen informed commissioners that District 2 road crewman Nick Smith has submitted his two week notice, effective November 6th. The position will be advertised.
